The release of the new ITIL V3 Intermediate exams this week marks the second stage in the launch of the ITIL V3 Qualification Scheme. As of October 1, the following intermediate exams are available:• Service Operation• Service Transition• Operational Support and Analysis• Release, Control and Validation• Service Offerings and Agreement
The new intermediate level exams comprise the second level of the ITIL V3 Qualification Scheme and consist of two streams: the Lifecycle stream and the Capability stream. Both streams assess a candidate’s knowledge of ITIL concepts and offer added flexibility as candidates can choose from exams in either stream to gain credits need for the Expert Level.
Towards an ITIL Expert titleITIL Expert in IT Service Management represents the highest level of the new qualification scheme. To earn this title, candidates must successfully complete a balanced selection of Intermediate Level exams, in addition to the Foundation Level exam and the Managing Across the Lifecycle course. The last course is designed to consolidate the knowledge gained of ITIL concepts and the Lifecycle approach in the previous level of the qualification scheme.
With the release of ITIL V3 in 2007, the new ITIL Qualification Scheme allows candidates to gain credits for each exam they successfully complete. Once candidates have earned the required number of credits, they can be awarded the ITIL Expert in IT Service Management.
Current developmentsThe Intermediate exams are currently available in English only, but will be made available for international candidates in a wide range of languages. In addition to these new developments, the existing ITIL V3 Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management is currently undergoing review as part of a continual improvement cycle.
