EXIN is the leading Examination Institute for ITIL® certification EXIN is a founding member of the international ITIL® certification board, together with the UK Office of Government Commerce (OGC) and the IT Service Management Forum UK (itSMF). EXIN has played a major role in the certification of professionals in IT Service Management worldwide, by offering and modernizing the Foundation, Practitioner and Manager's Certificates in IT Service Management in over ten languages. ITIL® V2/V3ITIL® version 3, the successor of ITIL® version 2 was introduced in conjunction with the publication of the new ITIL® literature at the end of May 2007. New exams have now also been developed since the publication of the new literature. The introduction of version 3 does not mean that ITIL® version 2 will immediately be discarded. While version 2 is primarily geared towards the description and control of processes – which is currently a major requirement in the majority of IT organizations – version 3 focuses on the results that can be achieved when the processes are ready (the services). Only a handful of organizations have reached this level of maturity. Consequently, exam candidates can continue to sit the current version 2 IT Service Management Foundation exam (based on ITIL®) (ITILF) exam.Read more about ITIL® V2 and ITIL® V3.Download productsheet ITIL® Refresh (pdf).Consequences of the introduction of version 3 for examinationsAt EXIN you can get certified for ITIL® version 2 at three levels: Foundation, Practitioner and Manager. A lot of work is currently being performed on the development of the entire certification scheme for ITIL® version 3.Discontinuation ITIL® V2The introduction of ITIL® V3 exams has led to the question about a possible stop date for ITIL® V2. EXIN has received a considerable amount of requests from our customers asking for an extension of the ITIL® V2 lifespan. The ITIL Qualification Board is now considering the discontinuation of ITIL® V2. EXIN has a seat on the ITIL Qualification Board, so that EXIN can be involved in and keep abreast of the development of the ITIL® examinations. We are therefore able to partially influence the decisions made, and it is important to us that we are able to represent your interests in the Board. Consequently, EXIN did a survey at the end of 2008 to get a view on the market’s opinion about a possible sunset date for ITIL® V2 certification. Almost half of the respondents said that they would like for ITIL® V2 to remain coexisting with ITIL® V3 in the long term. The full report titled Future of ITIL® V2 can be downloaded here (pdf). Please note that it will take at least half a year after announcing the official discontinue date to actually withdraw the ITIL® V2 exams. It is expected that the decision will lead to the withdrawal of only the ITIL® V2 exams in those languages for which there is a replacing V3 exam available.ITIL® is a Registered Trade Mark of the Office of Government Commerce in the United Kingdom and other countries.
